There are multiple ways of installing ECF to make it flexible for users with varying backgrounds of technological expertise. In other words, users with limited technical knowledge may opt to install ECF via the Installer. More advanced and experienced users of ECF may want to opt for manual installation to control which files are installed. Whichever method you want to use for installing ECF, this guide provides step-by-step instructions for each installation scenario and option.

h3. System Requirements

Before attempting installation, you must be aware of the [ecf51installanddeploy:System Requirements] for ECF. If you do not satisfy the requirements, then you will be unable to install ECF.

h3. SDK Installation Using Installer

This guide walks you through an installation of the SDK Package using the Mediachase installer. The installer makes it easy for first-time users of ECF to get a running instance within 10-15 minutes in "localhost." For experienced and advanced users of ECF, this guide walks you through how to install the SDK without using the installer. This is recommended if you want full control of the installation process and want to learn ECF at a lower level. A typical manual installation, depending on experience, will take in between 20-30 minutes.

This guide covers how to manually install the ECF Full Source Code package. It is an involved process that can take up to an hour to successfully install. This is recommend for those technically adept with the ECF.

h3. BareSite Installation with No CMS

A typical ECF installation includes both the backend Commerce Manager and front-end B2CSampleSite. The BareSite sample site is designed for .NET developers who are familiar with ASP.NET MasterPages to learn our APIs and implementation of a B2CSampleSite. In addition, the BareSite installation does not include the Content Management System (CMS), making it easier for developers to integrate a third-party solution if they wish to.
